When:
Wed, Sep 15
Category:
Lesson Plan Archives

Description

Standards/Benchmarks:
SC.912.E.7.1: Analyze the movement of matter and energy through the different biogeochemical cycles, including water and carbon.
SC.912.P.10.2: Explore the Law of Conservation of Energy by differentiating among open, closed, and isolated systems and explain that the total energy in an isolated system is a conserved quantity.
Essential Question/s: What is the earth's energy budget and what are the internal and external sources of energy?
Lesson Agenda:
1. FCAT Slam: Energy
2. Time to complete spheres interactive from yesterday
3. Intro: Open and Closed Systems
4. Cornell Notes: Earth's Energy Budget
How we will learn it:
Explicit Instruction: Define Energy > Introduce closed and open systems with local examples
Modeled Instruction: Begin Cornell Notes for students: First Law of Thermodynamics
Guided Practice: Lead students through synonym/antonym FCAT Slam > Circulate to work with students on completing spheres interactive > Circulate to work with students on Cornell Notes
Formative Assessment (How we will know we learned it?): Students complete spheres > Students complete FCAT Slam > Students complete Cornell Notes
Relevance/Closure (How will we use it?): Collect and grade spheres interactive and Cornell Notes
Materials/Resources: Whiteboard, laptop, projector, colored pencils, paper, pencil, Cornell Notes
NEWS FLASH: I hope everyone is enjoying their well deserved break. Have a great holiday!
