Essential Question/s: How does one differentiate between a theory, a hypothesis and a guess?
Lesson Agenda:
1. FCAT Word Slam: Theory
2. Introduction: Theory, Hypothesis, Guess
3. Introduction to activity
4. Students given individual theory evaluation
5. Students, in groups, complete group theory evaluation
6. Discussion
How we will learn it:
Explicit Instruction: Share definition for theory > Share common/familiar: theories, hypotheses, and guesses
Modeled Instruction: Illustrate processes > Preview individual theory evaluation > Preview group theory evaluation
Guided Practice: Circulate among the groups to advance the dialog and encourage individual members to participate in the discussion.
Independent Practice: Students complete individual theory evaluation.
Formative Assessment (How we will know we learned it?): Discussion
Relevance/Closure (How will we use it?): Share the foundation for the 5 theories and the actual "theories" used.
Materials/Resources: Paper, pencil, 5 theories activity, 5 theories worksheet
