Policies, Processes & Procedures

Welcome to our policies and processes section. We'll do our best to include everything here as it relates to expectations, processes and procedures in the classroom. Please understand that a classroom is a very dynamic environment and it is very rare that rules and reinforcements don't change throughout the year so please check back here regularly as we'll do our best to keep this section updated as things change.

As always, if you have any questions or suggestions please take the time to send an email or call Mr. Yeazell or Mr. Mason and we'll get back to you just as soon as possible. (727) 893-2780

Academic Assistance

Academic assistance, extra help, is available to all of our students with their request. We will do everything within our power to try to make extra help available to students at a time that is convenient to them but with after school meetings it isn't always possible.

We will set aside at least two days a week that students may come in after school for help with their instructor and will coordinate tutoring with National Honor Society students for those who cannot make the study sessions or prefer to come in more play at online casinos than the two days a week in which the instructors will be available.

Restroom Process

Our restroom process is very straightforward and if used responsibly provides for access with a minimum of distraction to learning and time out of class.

Students may use the restroom at any time outside of active instruction, lab exercises and the first and last ten minutes of the class period. Only one student is allowed out at a time and restroom passes are limited to seven minutes. Students are not to use a restroom pass for any other purpose: see another teacher, go to the media center, see their counselor, administrator, etc.

Testing Process

Our testing philosophy:

  • All students can be successful on rigorous objective tests when the instruction is appropriate, the expectations are consistent and the support systems are in place.
  • With the emphasis on testing: quarterly countywide tests, impending exit tests for subject areas, AP exams, FCAT and college entrance exams students need to become more effective test takers.
  • Allowing students to use notes, books on tests, or curving the results does not assist students in developing the skills required to become effective testers.

Extra Credit

Extra credit is intended to supplement classroom instruction not to replace. Students may critique relevant news articles, post worthwhile references, provide academic support to their classmates, build models, create websites/blogs, do class presentations, etc.

The beauty of our class is that it is so relevant to students everyday life. It is very rare that a day goes by in which an article related to our class cannot be found in the local newspapers. We have also provided a substantial listing of news feeds in which 100 or so related articles are presented to students fresh daily courtesy of Science Daily, Yahoo, Google, NPR, etc.
