Title:
The Hydrologic Cycle
When:
Mon, Sep 20
Category:
Lesson Plan Archives

Description

Standards/Benchmarks:
SC.912.E.7.1: Analyze the movement of matter and energy through the different biogeochemical cycles, including water and carbon.
Essential Question/s: What is the water cycle and how is matter and energy transferred through earth's spheres?
Lesson Agenda:
1. FCAT Slam: Evaporation
2. Review quiz scores, schedule retakes
3. KWL: The Hydrologic Cycle
4. Movie: The Hydrologic Cycle
5. Preview activity for tomorrow
How we will learn it:
Engage: KWL: The hydrologic cycle > Movie: The hydrologic cycle (Monday)
Explore: Activity: Students gather soil and plant, place them in a two liter bottle and seal. Predict results and record observations. (Tuesday/Wednesday)
Explain: Review findings from the activity > Hydrologic cycle worksheets: Evaporation, transpiration, precipitation, infiltration and run off. (Wednesday)
Elaborate: Students visit the outdoor classroom, identify real life examples of where these processes are occurring. Pull plants for use in the simulated wetlands. Identify examples of the other biogeochemical cycles. (Thursday)
Evaluate: Predictions/Observations > Hydrologic cycle worksheets collected and graded > Hydrologic cycle results from the biogeochemical cycles quiz.
Relevance/Closure (How will we use it?): Water quality, sustainability, news articles: water shortage, water wars
Materials/Resources: Paper, pencil, stickers, 2 liter bottles, soil, plants, hydrologic cycle worksheets, outdoor classroom.

NEWS FLASH: I hope everyone is enjoying their well deserved break. Have a great holiday!
